Behind the Blog: Ferly Tangonan of Gifts We Use

Ferly Tangonan is the woman behind the blog Gifts We Use and is currently one of my fellow interns in the Summer Internship at 5 Minutes for Mom.  I’ve enjoyed learning with her online (she lives in California) and checking out her cool blog, which just got a redesign.

I am Ferly Tangonan, a wife, mom and blogger on a journey to a clutter free house and life. I married my high school sweetheart and we have a fun-loving preschool boy.

I started Gifts We Use in December 2011 as a way to keep myself accountable to a new years resolution I had to organize my house. While I’m normally an organized person, becoming a new mom threw me for a loop. While trying to survive infancy, I lost my organizing ways, but found them again when I discovered blogs of all things. Today, I am using the inspiration that fired up my blog to gift it forward to my readers.

When I first started blogging, I posted when I felt like it. After much time and work have passed, I now stick to a consistent blogging schedule and try to post 2-3 times every week.

My favorite part about blogging is reader comments. I like to know that the work I’m putting in to inspire others is making an impact, and for me, comments are the best way I get feedback. My least favorite part about blogging would have to be advanced coding and design. Even though I’m pretty tech savvy, some of the technical aspects that go with blogging just go over my head.

I’d tell other bloggers to dive in, but tread slowly, and blog about your passion. You will never know if blogging is for you until you dive in. Once the blog bug bites, it can be overwhelming. Treading the bloggy waters slowly will avoid blogger burnout and keep you wanting more. Blogging about your passion will only fuel a fire that is already in your heart. If you don’t love what you blog about, change it.

A regular schedule has helped me with my blogging – it makes it easier to plan posts. And when I know I have a deadline because of my schedule, then I make sure I meet it! :)
